How is Botox given ?
Botox injections should be given only by a trained medical professional, even when used for cosmetic purposes. Botox is injected into a muscle. A doctor, nurse, or other healthcare provider will give you this injection. Botox injections should be spaced at least 3 months apart. Your Botox injection may be given into more than one area at a time, depending on the condition being treated. While receiving Botox injections for an eye muscle conditions, you may need to use eye drops, ointment, a special contact lens or other device to protect the surface of your eye. Follow your doctor’s instructions.
Is BOTOX® safe ?
Botox Cosmetic is FDA-approved and injections are relatively safe when performed by an experienced injector. It has proven to be a successful and valuable therapeutic protein when dosage, frequency of treatment and variety of treated clinical conditions are considered. The best way to ensure you receive the results you are looking for is to only receive injections from a highly experienced provider, such as the medical and nursing professionals at Ideal Image.
When will I see results ?
You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours with the maximum effect visible at 30 days. Results may vary.
How long does BOTOX® last ?
The effects of BOTOX® can last anywhere from 3-6 months. Many factors can influence how long the effects last. As the product wears off, muscle action returns gradually, and the previously treated lines & wrinkles may begin to reappear, and need to be treated again. With repeated treatment, the lines and wrinkles often appear less severe than before, as the muscles are being trained to relax.
Some of these factors that may shorten or lengthen the effects include:
• Your age
• The condition of your skin and level of sun damage
• Your facial structure and expressions
• Your diet
• Whether or not you smoke
• Past experience with BOTOX® or other wrinkle relaxers.
Who should not receive BOTOX® injections ?
While most people aged 18 to 65 are excellent candidates for BOTOX® and wrinkle relaxers, you should not use BOTOX® if you meet any of the following:
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have a skin infection or other condition in the area to be treated
• Are allergic to any ingredients in BOTOX®, DYSPORT®, or any other botulinum toxin brand
• Have had facial surgery
• Have difficulty swallowing
• Have weakness in your forehead muscles
• And more…
If you have any concerns as to whether or not you may be a good candidate, one of our consultants will be happy to answer any questions you may have. With any medical procedures, it is best to discuss the procedure with your doctor before starting treatment.
Are Botox injections Painful ?
Any injection can hurt, but the needles used for Botox injections are very small, so pain is usually minimal. The area can be numbed with a topical anesthetic cream or cold pack 10-20 minutes before the injections are given, so you may not feel much pain, if any. You may feel a little discomfort later, once the anesthetic cream has worn off. Other side effects are listed below.
How long does a BOTOX treatment take to perform ?
A Typical BOTOX treatment is 30 – 40 minutes long.
How Often Should You Get Botox Injections ?
You’re probably wondering how long Botox lasts. Most people see effects for three to four months, but several factors may shorten or lengthen that period:
• Your age. Older people with less muscle tone may see results diminish sooner than those with younger, firmer facial muscles.
• Your facial structure and expressions.
• Whether you smoke.
• Your diet.
• Whether you take good care of your skin; use facials, microdermabrasion or other resurfacing methods.
• How much sun you get and how much sun damage your skin already has.
• Whether you use Botox repeatedly or not. However, this seems to differ from one person to another. Some obtain a longer-lasting effect with repeated use, while others seem to develop a resistance to the drug and need more frequent treatments.
Doctors disagree on which of the above factors are the most important; it’s a good question to ask your practitioner. In any case, it is not recommended to have injections in the same injection site (such as for crow’s feet) more frequently than every three months. As with the injection of any medication, your body’s immune system can develop antibodies to the medication, which render the drug less effective or possibly cause development of an allergy to the drug. The more frequently the drug is injected or the more quantity that is injected, the higher the risk for these antibodies to be formed against the drug.
What can I expect during the procedure ?
Before the procedure
Although most people tolerate the injection discomfort well, you may want your skin to be numb beforehand. Several options are available, including:
• Injections. Your doctor can inject a numbing medication into your skin.
• Cream. A prescription cream can be applied 60 to 90 minutes before the procedure.
• Cold spray. A blast of very cold air is directed at the skin for about 10 seconds. The numbness only lasts a few seconds.
During the procedure
Your doctor uses a thin needle to inject tiny amounts of botulism toxin into your skin or muscles. The number of injections needed depends on many factors, including the extent of the area being treated. Botox injections are usually done in a doctor’s office.
After the procedure
Expect to resume your normal daily activities right after the procedure. Take care, though, not to rub or massage the treated areas. This can cause the toxin to migrate to a different area.
What happens if I miss a dose ?
Since Botox has a temporary effect and is given at widely spaced intervals, missing a dose is not likely to be harmful.
What happens if I overdose ?
Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. Overdose symptoms may not appear right away, but can include muscle weakness, trouble swallowing, and weak or shallow breathing.
What are the side effects of BOTOX ?
Potential Botox side effects include pain at the injection site, infection, inflammation, swelling, redness, bleeding and bruising. Some of these symptoms may indicate an allergic reaction; other allergy symptoms are itching, wheezing, asthma, a rash, red welts, dizziness and faintness. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any breathing issues or a faint or dizzy feeling.
Don’t get injections at a “Botox party” at somebody’s house. A medical setting is safer, and any side effects can be treated immediately. Also, dry mouth, fatigue, headache and neck pain have been reported.
You may have heard of other side effects as well, such as numbness, droopy eyelids, muscle spasms or twitching, and migration of the substance.
Numbness as an absence of physical sensation is not really an issue with Botox, because Botox is not an anesthetic. Numbness as the result of the inability to move a muscle is an issue for some people.
Muscle spasms in the area of the Botox injections do not occur while the Botox is effective. After all, Botox is used to treat spasms related to benign essential hemifacial spasm, cerebral palsy, fibromyalgia and temporomandibular joint disorder.
It is possible for the Botox to spread a little beyond the intended injection site and affect surrounding tissues. For example, if you receive injections into the forehead close to your eyebrows or your upper eyelids, they could be affected and may droop temporarily.
How much does BOTOX cost ?
The cost of Botox Cosmetic injections varies from one place to another and from one practitioner to another, so you’ll need to ask your practitioner what he or she charges.
Some practitioners charge by the number of units injected. One vial of Botox Cosmetic contains 100 units. Advertised specials of $6-$7 per unit are not uncommon, while some practitioners may charge up to $10-$12 per unit.
Some practices charge by the “zone.” For example, the frown lines would be one zone, the crow’s feet another zone and the forehead yet another zone. Prices per zone may vary between $250 and $350, depending on the practitioner and/or the region of the country.
Why does acne appear most often in teenagers ?
The primary trigger for acne is fluctuating hormones — specifically, the male hormone testosterone. (Women do have some levels of testosterone.) When teenagers hit puberty, their hormones start surging — and often, so does acne.
Can what I eat cause acne breakouts ?
No The primary trigger of most cases of acne is the fluctuation of hormones. Hormones stimulate the oil glands to produce more sebum, which can block pores. Bacteria can then grow within the pores, causing them to become inflamed and break out. That happens at times of major hormonal change, such as during the menstrual cycle, and during the teen years, no matter what you eat. So despite what your grandmother told you, eating too many potato chips won’t make you break out in pimples. But there some evidence that certain diets may have an effect on acne, Studies, such as one published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, have suggested that high consumption of dairy products raises the risk of getting acne because of the hormones in milk, cheese, and yogurt. However, subsequent studies have not supported the theory. Still other studies of acne’s relationship to nutrition have shown that a diet with a high glycemic index, such as white breads, waffles, and other carbs, worsens acne.
Why do some adults have acne ?
Although the hormonal fluctuations that cause acne are most common during the teen years, they can also affect adults. Women may experience hormonal swings during their menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and menopause that result in acne breakouts. Acne can also be a side effect of certain medications, such as anticonvulsants and steroid drugs. Some people may also have a genetic predisposition to acne. One study found that 50% of adults with acne had a parent, sibling, or child with acne.
Should I stop wearing makeup if I have acne ?
You don’t have to stop wearing makeup altogether, but you might try switching brands or going with a different type. If you’re noticing breakouts along the sides of your temples, hair creams or gels might be exacerbating your acne. Look for cosmetics and toiletries with the label “noncomedogenic,” meaning that they don’t clog pores.
Does acne mean I’m not keeping my face clean enough ?
Not necessarily In fact, scrubbing too hard at your face can aggravate your acne, and using alcohol-based astringents can dry out the skin. Acne is triggered by hormones, and while gentle, regular cleansing with soap and warm water can sometimes help with mild breakouts, more significant acne requires more than just good hygiene.
What acne treatments are best for me ?
That depends on many factors: your age, whether you’re male or female, how severe your acne is, and how long you’ve had it, among others. There are several options available. For mild to moderate acne, many dermatologists will start with a combination of a topical cream or gel containing either a retinoid or benzoyl peroxide along with a topical antibiotic. For more inflammatory acne, an oral antibiotic may be added. For more significant cases of acne, women may be placed on birth control pills or on the drug spironolactone, a water pill which also blocks male hormones. Severe cases of acne may be treated with the drug isotretinoin, which is very effective. However, side effects and blood abnormalities must be monitored monthly and requires registration with the FDA to obtain a prescription. There are also various types of light or photodynamic therapies available.
When should I see a dermatologist for acne treatment ?
If over -the-counter treatments, like products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, along with gentle cleansing, don’t work for you (give them a chance — it can take 4-12 weeks to clear up acne), a dermatologist may be able to help. Severe acne requires aggressive treatment to prevent scarring.
Will my acne ever go away ?
Most often, acne will go away on its own at the end of puberty, but some people still struggle with acne in adulthood. Almost all acne can be successfully treated, however. It’s a matter of finding the right treatment for you.
What causes acne ?
No one factor causes acne. Acne occurs when sebaceous (oil) glands attached to the hair follicles are stimulated at the time of puberty or due to other hormonal changes. Sebum (oil) is a natural substance that lubricates and protects the skin. Associated with increased oil production is a change in the manner in which the skin cells mature, predisposing them to plug the follicular pore. The plug can appear as a whitehead if it is covered by a thin layer of skin, or if exposed to the air, the darker exposed portion of the plug is called a “blackhead.” The plugged hair follicle gradually enlarges, producing a bump. As the follicle enlarges, the wall may rupture, allowing irritating substances and normal skin bacteria access into the deeper layers of the skin, ultimately producing inflammation. Inflammation near the skin’s surface produces a pustule; deeper inflammation results in a papule (pimple); if the inflammation is deeper still, it forms a cyst.
What other skin conditions can mimic acne ?
There a few other conditions that mimic acne:
• Rosacea: This condition is characterized by pimples but not comedones and occurs in the middle third of the face, along with redness, flushing, and superficial blood vessels. It generally affects people in their 30s and 40s and older.
• Pseudofolliculitis: This is sometimes called “razor bumps” or “razor rash.” When cut too close to the skin, growing hairs twist into the skin and produce tender bumps. This is a mechanical problem, and treatment involves shaving less (growing a beard, laserhair removal). Pseudofolliculitis can, of course, occur in patients who have acne, too.
• Folliculitis: Pimples can occur on other parts of the body, such as the abdomen, buttocks, or legs. These represent not acne but inflamed follicles. If these don’t go away on their own, doctors can prescribe oral or external antibiotics, generally not the same ones used for acne.
• Gram-negative folliculitis: Some patients who have been treated with oral antibiotics for long periods of time develop pustules filled with bacteria that are resistant to the antibiotics that were previously used. Bacterial culture tests can identify these germs, leading the doctor to prescribe different antibiotics or other forms of treatment.
When should someone start acne treatment ?
Since everyone gets acne at some time, the right time to treat it is when it becomes bothersome or when the potential for scarring develops. This can be when severe acne flares suddenly, for mild acne that just won’t go away, or even when a single pimple decides to show up the week before one’s prom or wedding.
What can people do to get rid of their acne ?
Lifestyle – Moderation and regularity are good things, but not everyone can sleep eight hours, eat three good meals, and drink plenty of water a day. One can, however, still control acne despite one’s frantic and unpredictable routine. Probably the most useful lifestyle changes one can make is to never to pick or squeeze pimples. Playing with or popping pimples, no matter how careful and clean one is, nearly always makes bumps stay redder and bumpier longer. People often refer to redness as “scarring,” but fortunately, it usually isn’t permanent. It’s just a mark that takes months to fade if left entirely alone.
Open the pores – Occasional visits to an aesthetician who is an expert at safely removing blackheads during a facial can be beneficial.
Cleansing and skin care – Despite what one might read in popular style and fashion magazines, there is no magic product or regimen that is right for every person and situation.
What is a good basic skin regimen ?
These are all good basic skin regimens that may help with the acne battle:
• Cleanse gently twice daily.
• Apply a gel or cream containing 5% benzoyl peroxide; an alternative is sulfur or resorcinol. Use a pad containing 2% salicylic acid to help exfoliation each morning.
• At night, apply a spot cream containing sulfur to the affected areas.
• Use a light skin moisturizer and water-based makeup.
Are there any effective natural acne treatment options ?
Some natural treatments may be helpful in reducing acne inflammation and breakouts:
Tea tree oil. Gels containing 5 percent tea tree oil may be as effective as are lotions containing 5 percent benzoyl peroxide, although tea tree oil might work more slowly. Possible side effects include contact dermatitis and, if you have rosacea, a worsening of those symptoms. One study reported that a young boy experienced breast development after using a combination lavender and tea tree oil hair product. Tea tree oil should be used only topically.
Alpha hydroxy acid. This natural acid is found in citrus fruit and other foods. When applied to your skin, alpha hydroxy acid helps remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. It may also improve the appearance of acne scars. Side effects include increased sensitivity to the sun, redness, mild stinging and skin irritation.
Azelaic acid. This naturally occurring acid is found in whole-grain cereals and animal products. It has antibacterial properties. A 20 percent azelaic acid cream seems to be as effective as many other conventional acne treatments when used twice a day for at least four weeks. It’s even more effective when used in combination with erythromycin. Prescription azelaic acid (Azelex, Finacea) is an option during pregnancy and while breast-feeding.
Bovine cartilage. Creams containing 5 percent bovine cartilage, applied to the affected skin twice a day, may be effective in reducing acne.
Zinc. Zinc in lotions and creams may reduce acne breakouts.
Green tea extract. A lotion of 2 percent green tea extract helped reduce acne in two studies of adolescents and young adults with mild to moderate acne.
Aloe vera. A 50 percent aloe vera gel was combined with a conventional acne drug (tretinoin) and tested for eight weeks on 60 people with moderate acne. The combination approach was significantly more effective than tretinoin alone.
Brewer’s yeast. A specific strain of brewer’s yeast, called CBS 5926, seems to help decrease acne. Brewer’s yeast is the only item in this list that’s taken orally. It may cause flatulence.
WHAT ARE RESTYLANE®, PERLANE® AND JUVÉDERM ?
RESTYLANE®,PERLANE® and JUVÉDERM® are all non-surgical, FDA-approved, fillers used to instantly smooth away moderate to severe wrinkles like smile lines (the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth) as well as plump the lips and restore lost volume for a fresher, more youthful appearance.
HOW DO RESTYLANE®, PERLANE® AND JUVÉDERM® WORK ?
RESTYLANE®, PERLANE® & JUVÉDERM® are clear gel like substances composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally exists in the body. While hearing the word “acid” may sound scary, hyaluronic acid isn’t harsh or damaging at all, in fact it’s the opposite. Within the human body, large amounts of hyaluronic acid are found between the cells, where it provides skin with its youthful suppleness and moisture. Unfortunately, our bodies own natural levels of hyaluronic acid decrease with age. Due to the decrease in hyaluronic acid as we age, combined with other factors, the facial muscles become closer to the surface of the skin, resulting in the increase appearance of wrinkles and smile lines. When you receive a treatment with RESTYLANE® or JUVÉDERM®, the lost hyaluronic acid is added back into the skin, restoring the lost volume to smooth those unsightly wrinkles or add fullness to thin lips.
ARE DERMAL FILLERS SAFE ?
There are minimal risks associated with dermal fillers, most of which can be avoided by choosing an experienced injector, such as one of the medical & nursing professionals at Ideal Image. All three of RESTYLANE®, PERLANE® and JUVÉDERM® are FDA-approved for adding volume to the skin in patients over 21 years of age.
HOW LONG DOES EACH DERMAL FILLER LAST ?
The JUVÉDERM® XC is the only hyaluronic acid filler FDA-approved to last up to one year with optimal treatment. RESTYLANE® and PERLANE®’s effects are slightly shorter in duration, generally lasting about six months before gradually disappearing from the body. With repeated treatments, the effects of all three of our dermal fillers can be prolonged so you never have to stop looking and feeling your best.
Is pre-treatment testing required ?
Unlike other, collagen-based dermal fillers, which could pose the risk of an allergic reaction for some patients, no pre-treatment allergy testing is required for JUVÉDERM® treatments. Hyaluronic acid already occurs naturally in human skin, and the hyaluronic acid that is used in dermal fillers is created through biosynthesis and is not of animal origin, so it is highly bio-compatible.
What is the difference between JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® ?
JUVÉDERM® has a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid than Restylane®, so the results of a JUVÉDERM® treatment should last longer than those of a Restylane® treatment. Some doctors and patients also believe that the results of JUVÉDERM® treatment are smoother and more natural looking than those achieved with Restylane.
Are JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® results immediate ?
A Typical Yes. While the appearance of treated areas will continue to improve for a few days following dermal filler treatment, patients enjoy immediate reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in areas treated with dermal filler.
Is there downtime following dermal filler treatments ?
There is no downtime required after dermal filler treatment. Patients who undergo dermal filler treatment can expect to be able to return to work or other normal activities immediately, with only mild redness or soreness at the site of the injections.
Are there risks associated with dermal fillers ?”
Adverse side effects of dermal filler treatment are rare, and usually go away in less than a week without any doctor intervention. Side effects of dermal fillers usually result from the injection itself and may include redness, tenderness, swelling, firmness, and bruising. Since your body already contains hyaluronic acid, and the ingredient in dermal fillers is created through biosynthesis in a laboratory and is designed for bio-compatibility, there is no risk of an allergic reaction after dermal filler treatment.
How painful are Juvederm or Restylane injections ?
There may be some discomfort during and after the injection. Juvederm or Restylane is injected directly into the skin with a fine needle. Some Juvederm or Restylane products contain the local anesthetic lidocaine to help lessen discomfort during injection, or the physician may choose to numb the site prior to injection. You should discuss these options with your physician prior to the procedure.
What areas are treated with JUVÉDERM or RESTYLANE ?
JUVÉDERM and RESTYLANE is for injection into the mid to deep dermis (below the outer layer of the skin) for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Some examples include:
Plump up folds that run from the bottom of the nose to the corners of the mouth, Reduce the “Marionette lines,” the down turned creases in the corner of the mouth, Augment thin or aging lips.
How long will the procedure take ?
The procedure takes approximately 15-30 minutes.
What should I expect after the treatment ?
You may experience pain, tenderness, temporary redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, and bumps at the injection sites. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period.
Are there any restrictions post treatment ?
You should avoid the following for at least 24 hours after treatment:
– Strenuous exercise
– Consumption of alcoholic beverages
– Extended exposure to sun or heat
What should I do to prepare for my appointment ?
We recommend that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), for at least a week prior to receiving the treatment for wrinkles in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Please always check with your primary physician to see if discontinuing any medication is appropriate.
If you want JUVÉDERM filler in your lips, please let us know if you have herpes simplex virus (also known as “cold sores” or “fever blisters”). For your comfort we will recommend that you call your physician for treatment as if you were experiencing an outbreak. JUVÉDERM does not cause outbreaks, but can trigger a non-active outbreak.
We will also need to know if you are allergic to Lidocaine prior to your appointment.
What is Photorejuvenation of the Neck and chest ?
Photorejuvenation uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to target red and brown pigmentation. The light passes harmlessly through the skin and is absorbed by spots and lesions. Abnormal cells are destroyed, leaving only healthy tissue. IPL also promotes the growth of collagen, fills in scars and gives skin a youthful glow.
How does the treatment work ?
The skin is cleansed, prepared with gel and then treated with the light. Afterwards, the gel is cleaned off, and sunblock is applied. Cold compresses may be used if needed. You may return to your normal routine immediately.
How many treatments of photorejuvenation are required ?
The standard schedule is one treatment per month for five months. Some clients may be satisfied with the results from two or three sessions, and some may seek additional treatment.
Is Photorejuvenation safe ?
Photorejuvenation is a safe, common and quick treatment with little risk.
Will there be any downtime ?
No you may return to your daily routine immediately.
What are the benefits of Photorejuvenation over other treatments ?
Photorejuvenation’s quick treatment time, visible results and lack of downtime make it a popular method to achieve the desired effects.
What are the results ?
Neck and chest Photorejuvenation gives skin a healthy, youthful look, as well as decreases the appearance of blemishes such as scars, brown spots and redness.
What can be expected post-treatment ?
Your skin will be sensitive and will need to be protected from the sun. Any swelling should be minimal and can be treated with cold compresses. The red and brown areas should flake off after a few days.
How soon will results appear ?
Noticeable results appear after the first few treatments.
How long does the Photorejuvenation treatment last ?
A session lasts around thirty minutes.
What conditions respond best to this treatment ?
Dark spots, redness, aging, freckles and sun spots all respond well to Hand Photorejuvenation.
Who are candidates for Photorejuvenation ?
Healthy individuals with minor blemishes are likely to be candidates for Photorejuvenation of the hands, neck and chest.
Are there any possible side effects ?
You may experience a sunburned effect for a few hours afterwards. Spots will temporarily appear darker, and hair growth may be affected. Swelling, blistering, infection, unwanted pigmentation changes and scarring are rare effects, and you should contact your doctor if they appear.
What is Ultherapy ?
Ultherapy is a safe, non-surgical ultrasound treatment that counteracts the effects of time and gravity on your skin. Ultherapy uses the body’s own regenerative response to gently and gradually lift skin on the eyebrow, under the chin and on the neck, and smooth lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.
What is unique about Ultherapy ?
Ultherapy is the only non-invasive treatment cleared by the FDA to actually lift skin. Ultherapy is also the only cosmetic procedure to use ultrasound imaging, which allows practitioners to see the layers of tissue targeted during the treatment to ensure the energy is deposited to where it will be most beneficial. With the addition of the new Ultherapy® Décolletage Treatment, Ultherapy is also now the only non-invasive procedure specifically indicated by the FDA to improve lines and wrinkles on the chest.
Can Ultherapy replace a face lift ?
Ultherapy treats the deep foundational layer addressed in cosmetic surgery, but won’t duplicate the results of a face lift. Ultherapy is a great alternative, however, especially for those not ready for surgery or for patients looking to extend the effects of cosmetic surgery.
How does Ultherapy different from laser treatments ?
Ultherapy uses sound energy – which has unique properties that allow it to bypass the surface of the skin to treat depths not matched by any other non-invasive cosmetic device. Ultherapy ultrasound stimulates collagen production in the skin’s foundation, resulting in a clinically significant lift of tissue over 2-3 months.
Lasers rely on light energy, which cannot reach deeper skin layers at an optimal temperature, so laser treatments typically only treat superficial skin and are not FDA-cleared to lift skin. Since the two technologies often treat different types of skin issues, they’re actually very compatible.
How does Ultherapy stimulate the creation of collagen ?
Ultherapy deposits focused ultrasound energy deep beneath the skin at the optimal temperature for collagen regeneration. The treatment jump starts a natural process, known as neocollagenesis, to produce fresh, new collagen. Ultherapy doesn’t involve any creams, fillers or toxins; it just relies on your body’s own collagen-building process for natural, noticeable results.
How long does an Ultherapy treatment take ?
The length of the treatment will depend on the area being treated and your individual treatment plan. A face and neck procedure typically takes 60-90 minutes, while a chest treatment takes approximately 30 minutes.
Will I need to take time off ?
With Ultherapy, there is no downtime. After your procedure, you can resume your normal activities immediately, without having to follow any special post-treatment measures.
What does the Ultherapy treatment feel like ?
As the ultrasound energy is delivered, you will feel tiny amounts of energy being deposited to precise depths, indicating that the collagen-building process has been initiated. Comfort levels vary from person to person, but the sensation only lasts while the ultrasound energy is being delivered.
When will I see results ? How long do they last ?
After your Ultherapy Treatment, you may see some initial effect, but the ultimate results will take place over 2-3 months, as your body naturally regenerates collagen. Since the procedure stimulates your own collagen production, how long the results last really depends on you. The treatment produces new collagen on the inside, but your natural aging process will dictate how long that translates into visible results on the outside.
How many Ultherapy treatments will I need ?
Most patients only need one treatment. However, based on the degree of skin laxity, the biological response to ultrasound energy and the individual’s collagen-building process, some patients benefit from additional treatments. Because skin continues to age, future touch-up treatments can help patients keep pace with the body’s natural aging process.
Are there any side effects ?
The skin might appear flushed at first, but the redness should disappear within a few hours. Some patients experience slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to the touch, but these are temporary in nature. Other, less common post-procedural effects may include temporary bruising or numbness on small areas of skin. As with any medical procedure, there is the possibility for other rare effects, which your practitioner will review with you.
Is Ultherapy safe ?
The FDA cleared Ultherapy® procedure has been used safely in over 250,000 treatments worldwide. Ultrasound energy has been used safely in the medical field for more than 50 years. In addition, every Ultherapy practitioner receives extensive procedural training, so you can feel confident in choosing a provider.

DOES IT HURT ?
It hurts more the first time than any other time because you are pulling out 100% of the hair, you’re probably a little tense and you don’t know what to expect. As you wax on a regular basis, your hair gets thinner and more sparse so the pain is a lot less. We promise. Plus, our estheticians work quickly and are trained in techniques that minimize the discomfort associated with waxing.
WHAT ARE THE MOST POPULAR AREAS FOR WAXING ?
The most popular areas for women are: legs, facial hair, bikini, and underarm hair and for men it is the back, chest and abs.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTERWARDS ?
The skin may be tender in the waxed area for the first day or two, it may even break out into little bumps, especially if it was your first time or if your roots are deep. The upper lip, back, chest and bikini are the most common areas to be affected. This is a normal reaction and will clear up on it’s own. You may also use over the counter hydrocortisone cream to the affected area for quicker recovery.
CAN I TAN BEFORE OR AFTER WAXING ?
You should not wax if you have had prolonged sun exposure in the previous 24 hours, if you are sunburned, or if you have any sort of allergic reaction on your skin. This is because the top layer of skin may be more likely to lift which could result in increased sensitivity, bleeding or even scarring. You should use sunscreen and should not tan within 48 hours of waxing, because freshly waxed skin is more likely to burn. YOU CAN however spray tan after waxing. Which is available for your convenience at our Arcadia location.

CAN I WAX DURING THAT TIME OF THE MONTH ?
if you don’t mind, we don’t mind. We can absolutely wax you if it’s that time of the month. But… just be aware that the area is more sensitive and you may experience more discomfort than usual.
How long is long enough for my hair to get waxed ?
let the hair grow to about ¼ inch so the wax can grab the hair.
Will my hair grow back thicker and darker ?
No. Waxing pulls the hair from the follicle weakening the root. So, if anything it will grow back weaker, more sparse and easier to remove next time.
Will my hair stop growing back all together ?
No, but it will become more sparse and have a finer texture if you wax on a regular basis.
Can I shave between my waxing visits ?
Don’t you dare shave down there!! The hair will be shorter when you come in for your next visit and the wax won’t grab as well. Also, shaving creates ingrown hairs, redness and irritation. If you have an urge to pick up the pink bic, make your appointments every three weeks instead of four or five.
Can I have a glass of wine or a cocktail before my wax ?
I am actually going to leave this one up to you. There are arguments for both sides on this one. Alcohol is a stimulant and can make your skin more sensitive to waxing causing more inflammation. Others say they don’t notice this difference and if you are embarrassed about baring your parts where the sun don’t shine, a glass of wine will surely help you relax.
How long before the hair grows back ?
Okay, this is a tricky one because when it comes to the hair re-growth cycle we are not all created equal. Everyone’s hair grows at different rates, sometimes depending on ethnicity. I have some clients that come in every six weeks and have hardly any hair at all (no fair!) and others who have to come in every three weeks. Don’t worry!! If you need to come in every three weeks or less, I have a Brazilian Maintenance Special. My experience has been that every four weeks is the most popular length of time between waxes.
What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit ?
Your massage therapist may require you to fill out a health history form. Afterward the therapist will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed, and to determine if massage is appropriate for you. Your massage therapist may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition and to see if you have any presenting complaints.
It is important to list all health concerns and medications so the therapist can adapt the session to your specific needs without doing any harm. It is also important to list any allergies so the therapist is aware if he/she needs to use a different oil or lotion during the session.
Do I have to be completely undressed ?
You should undress to the level you are comfortable. For a full body massage, most get completely undressed. However, if you will be more comfortable during the session if you leave your underwear on, that’s fine. The therapist will work around the clothes you left on as best as he/she can. If removing all your clothes makes you too nervous and unable to relax, then you are not getting the optimal benefit from the session. Your massage therapist should give you privacy to undress and get comfortable on the table.
Do I have to cover myself with a sheet or towel ?
This is known as draping and depends on the therapist and in some cases, the law. The vast majority of therapists will insist on draping. Once you are undressed and on the table under the drape, the therapist will only uncover the part of your body being worked on. The genitals (women and men) and breasts (women) will not be uncovered. If the therapist is going to work on a woman’s abdomen, a second towel or sheet will be used to cover the breasts so the main sheet or towel can be moved to expose the abdomen.
What do I do during a massage treatment ?
Make yourself comfortable. If your therapist wants you to adjust your position, she/he will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It’s up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.
How long will a massage treatment last ?
The average full-body massage treatment lasts approximately one hour. A half-hour appointment only allows time for a partial massage session, such as neck and shoulders, back or legs and feet. Many people prefer a 60 to 90-minute session for optimal relaxation. Always allow relaxation time prior to and after the session.
Are the massages painful ?
This depends on the type of massage and the depth of the strokes. A light, relaxing massage that doesn’t probe very deep into the muscles, shouldn’t hurt. With that being said, there is a ‘feels good’ hurt and an ‘ouch, stop it’ hurt. A good massage, even a really deep tissue massage, should always stay in the ‘feels good’ hurt range. Pain can be an indication that the muscle is possibly injured or inflamed and pressure should be adjusted. Also, pain can cause you to tighten up and negate the relaxing effects of the massage. The most effective and deepest massage always works with your body’s natural response, not against it.
How often should I get a massage ?
It varies from person to person. If you are just looking for some occasional relaxation, then a session every 3-6 weeks may be fine for you. However, if you are looking to address a specific condition, then it is recommended to go more frequently at first and then slowly taper down to a maintenance schedule. Sometimes more frequent 30-minute sessions can be effective until your goals are met and a maintenance schedule is in place. Frequency of sessions should be discussed with your massage therapist after your treatment when he/she has a better hands-on understanding of your particular muscular issues.
If I want a really deep massage shouldn’t I see a male therapist ?
NO There is a perception that men give deeper massages than women. This is a myth. While some men do give a deeper massage, there are men who prefer to not work so deep. The same holds true for women. It is a matter of style, training, and therapist preference. Some therapists prefer not to give really deep sessions while others specialize in this area. If you are looking for a deep massage, it is best to simply ask the therapist if she/he does this type of work. And of course, during your session it is perfectly OK to give the therapist feedback if you would like a lighter/deeper pressure. It’s your session! And remember, massage does not have to hurt to be effective.
Can I talk during my session ?
Sure if you’d like to talk go right ahead. The important thing to remember is that this treatment is all about you relaxing and enjoying the experience. Many therapists discourage talking in hopes that you will relax, let your mind float free and enter a state of massage bliss. In many instances, people may feel more relaxed starting off talking, and as the massage progresses, enter quiet states of relaxation. The important issue here is that there are times when you need to speak up. If the therapist is doing anything to make you uncomfortable, you should let her/him know immediately. Also, let him/her know if you get too warm or too cold, if the room is too bright, or if the pressure needs to be changed (lighter or deeper). If something is not working for you – speak up! It’s OK!
How will I feel after my massage treatment ?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience a significant decrease or freedom from long-term aches and pains. Many feel a little slowed down for a short period and then notice an increase of energy, heightened awareness and increased productivity which can last for days. If you received a deep massage, you may be slightly sore the next day – much like a good workout at the gym. Sometimes a hot shower, or a soak in the tub can ease this soreness. After your session you should increase your water intake a bit. Just a glass or two more than normal is usually fine. This helps keep your body’s tissues hydrated and healthy.
How many massage therapy sessions will I need ?
Honestly, its hard to say. Every person is unique and every condition is unique to each person. It may take one session or it may take several. You and your therapist will be able to talk more specifically about this after your first session and he/she has had a chance to evaluate your body’s tissues.
When should I not get a massage ?
In my opinion there are few conditions which would prevent you from enjoying massage. You should not book a massage if you have a fever, cold/flu, or contagious skin infection. That’s it. There are many other conditions in which your therapist may need to adapt his/her techniques (i.e. arthritis or osteoporosis) or avoid an area completely (i.e. cuts or burns). With some conditions it is a good idea to get an approval from your physician before you receive massage (cancer, certain heart conditions, pregnancy). This doesn’t mean you can’t get massage. But its always better to err on the side of caution. Your therapist can advise you about your specific needs.
What Is Dermaplanning ?
Dermaplanning is a skin procedure that involves using a sharp tool to exfoliate the surface of your skin, while also removing small, fine hairs. Basically, an aesthetician or dermatologist will take a small scalpel and very gently scrape the surface of your skin using light, feathering strokes. If this sounds like something out of a horror movie, keep reading you might be surprised.
What are the benefits of Dermaplaning ?
So what exactly does lightly scraping your skin with a scalpel accomplish? A lot, apparently. Dermaplanning’s purpose is to give your skin an immediate exfoliation for a luminous glow that lasts a week. The benefits are dewy skin, faster cell turnover, and a smoother texture. Physicians might recommend dermaplanning to anyone who is about to undergo a laser treatment or deep chemical peel, to allow the products to penetrate more deeply into the skin. Plus, the light “shaving” motion gets rid of light facial hairs while it exfoliates.
Who can benefit from Dermaplaning ?
Anyone who has unwanted facial hair and anyone who wants exfoliation can benefit. Dermaplaning is also great for anyone who is unable to use certain products or other exfoliating treatments, such as pregnant women or those with super-sensitive skin. It’s an alternative way to lightly resurface the skin more safely.
Dermaplaning or Dermabrasion which is better ?
Lest you get confused, dermaplanning is not in any way similar to dermabrasion, which is a mechanical exfoliation that uses micro-crystals and suctioning to create exfoliation. Dermabrasion is not as popular as it once was, because of complications like infections. Dermaplaning, on the other hand, is, quick, easy, and requires no down time.
Is Dermaplaning painful ?
Dermaplanning is virtually painless, the only possible side effect is slight redness, which fades almost immediately.
What does the procedure fell like ?
Dermaplanning is a painless procedure and can be compared to the sensation of shaving your legs, but in this case, it’s on your face. First, the aesthetician will cleanse and thoroughly dry your skin. Next, she’ll pull an area of your skin taut with one hand, and hold a sterile 10 gauge blade at a 45 degree angle in the other hand and use short, swift strokes to scrape off dead skin cells and peach fuzz.
How long does a Dermaplaning treatment take to perform ?
A Typical Dermaplaning treatment is 30 – 40 minutes long.
Are there any side effects ?
There are no side effects and zero downtime. After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may already look very pink, so be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.
What kind of results should I anticipate ?
You’ll immediately look more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture. All of your peach fuzz will be gone, which is why first-timers say their skin has never felt so soft before.
How often should I do Dermaplaning to achieve optimum results ?
Dermaplaning removes 21 days worth of dead skin cells, so it’s best to allow the skin to complete its rejuvenation cycle before your next treatment. So approximately every 30 days.
Who is best qualified to perform this treatment ?
Dermaplanning should be administered by a board certified dermatologist or licensed aesthetician who specializes in this procedure. It’s always a good idea to ask how long they’ve been administering dermaplanning to know their level of experience—there’s a very sharp blade involved!
WHAT SKIN TYPES ARE SUITABLE FOR THIS TREATMENT ?
These are the most common things that women and men get collagen induction therapy for
• fine lines, dull skin, enlarged pores
• acne scars, chicken pox scars and surgical scars (more than 6 months old)
• naso-labial lines and smokers lines
• rejuvenation of hands, neck and décolletage.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED ?
Generally a minimum of 3 treatments are required to achieve the good rejuvenation of an area. Most women require 6-8 treatments to achieve the best results. When treating scarring, at least 8-12 treatments would generally be required. The treatments are performed 3-4 weeks apart.
WHEN WILL WE SEE RESULTS ?
The first week after the treatment you may get some skin peeling which helps lighten pigmentation or scarring and the skin looks more hydrated. The results are gradual as collagen re- production takes time, most clients report a gradual improvement in their skin color and texture over 6 – 8 week period. That improvement is compounded as each consecutive treatment is performed. So it’s really important to apply creams at home and commit to your follow up treatments to see the best results.
WHEN IS COLLAGEN INDUCTION TREATMENT NOT SUITABLE ?
The treatment should not be performed
• within 2 weeks of having an injectable dermal filler or botox.
• the treatment is never performed on raised moles, warts or lesions
• during pregnancy (when breastfeeding the treatment is allowed)
• medication (some medication may reduce healing time, please advise your therapist on anything you may be taking)
• the treatment will not be performed if the client has an active herpes or acne breakout, however, once resolved the treatment can go ahead after 2 weeks
• medical conditions (ie diabetes) need medical certificate.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF A COLLAGEN INDUCTION TREATMENT ?
WhileOver 1 Million skin needling procedures have been performed worldwide without any recorded incidents. Side effects are minimal, including mild swelling, mild bruising and peeling.
ARE THERE RISKS OF AN INFECTION ?
The Pores and tiny channels close within minutes, and provided the procedure is done under clinical conditions, post-op infections are very unlikely. To ensure the right healing environment, for 48 hours don’t not use glycolic acid, retinol, acidic skincare or “active” ingredients.
HOW LONG DOES A COLLAGEN INDUCTION TREATMENT TAKE TO PERFORM ?
A Typical Dermaplaning treatment is 50 – 60 minutes long.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY ?
The treatments are usually performed 3-4 weeks apart.
WHAT IS THE DOWN TIME AFTER A COLLAGEN INDUCTION TREATMENT ?
The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from the redness to pinkish that may last for 12 to 24 hours on average. Most clients are able to return to work the same day. It is important to protect the skin with sun screen SPF30.
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR COLLAGEN INDUCTION ?
Collagen Induction Therapy is suitable for all skin types, and ideal candidates are those who wish to improve skin laxity, smooth lines and wrinkles, slow the onset of the ageing process or improve the appearance of scarring. Keep update with the Collagen Induction therapy reviews on our website.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE A TREATMENT ?
Before you undergo any cosmetic treatment, it is important to have a consultation with a qualified practitioner to ensure you are suitable for treatment. This will be your opportunity to ask any questions you have about the procedure and for the practitioner to explain the pros and cons.
WHAT DOES IT COST TO HAVE A COLLAGEN INDUCTION TREATMENT ?
The cost of one session of Collagen Induction Therapy is about the same as a facial $150-$200. We offer a 15% discount if you buy a package of 6 or more.
What Is Microdermabrasion ?
Microdermabrasion is an effective, non-surgical way to get rid of acne scars, fine wrinkles and sunspots by exfoliating the top layers of the skin. No chemicals or laser beams are used, only aluminum oxide micro crystals that gently sandblast your skin, leaving it smooth and fresh. Micro dermabrasion also stimulates collagen production, helping your skin rejuvenate faster than normal. Also called the lunchtime peel, microdermabrasion takes up to one hour and has no downtime.
What Does Microdermabrasion Involve ?
Your skin is first cleansed with a special cleansing gel. The doctor then starts the micro abrasion procedure using a hand-held device. The aluminum oxide micro crystal flow is sandblasted through a small tube pressed against the skin. The tube also vacuums back dead skin cells and used micro crystals. The crystal flow starts as soon as the microdermabrasion wand touches your skin. The doctor slowly moves the wand across your entire face and not just on treated areas, so that you don’t experience inconsistency in skin texture or color. After microdermabrasion, your skin is soothed with a special nourishing sun blocking cream, allowing you to go back to your daily routine immediately after treatment.
What Is The Difference Between Microdermabrasion And Dermabrasion ?
Dermabrasion is a mechanical procedure that uses a power driver hand-held device to remove the top layers of the skin. It may need general or a local anesthetic, depending on the treated area. Dermabrasion lasts between a few minutes and two hours, depending on the depth and area of the skin resurfacing. After dermabrasion treatment, the skin is red, swollen and extremely sensitive for about 10 days. Dermabrasion can offer visible improvement by treating deep wrinkles, scars, and hyperpigmentation.
Microdermabrasion is much less invasive. It can be performed in an beauty center, doctor’s office or at home, using a personal home micro dermabrasion kit. A doctor uses a sandblaster-like hand-held device to spray and circulate high pressure flow of aluminum oxide crystals onto the skin. Used crystals and dead skin cells are then vacuumed back into the microdermabrasion machine, leaving the skin clean and smooth.
Is Aluminum Oxide Safe ?
Aluminum oxide crystals are perfectly safe and non-toxic if ingested. They don’t cause adverse skin reactions and they are not carcinogen. During microderm abrasion, your eyes are protected by special glasses, to prevent micro crystals from getting in your eyes. The special wands in microdermabrasion machines used in cosmetic saloons are designed to vacuum back all micro crystals released during microdermabrasion. That way, chances of inhaling the aluminum oxide are fairly slim.
Where Is Microdermabrasion Performed ?
Microdermabrasions are available in cosmetic centers, spas, dermatology clinics or at home by using a home microdermabrasion kit. Either way, you should consult your doctor to help you decide if microdermabrasion is suitable for you and which kit or system would be best for you.
How long Does Micro Dermabrasion take ?
A typical microdermabrasion face treatment takes between 20 and 30 minutes. However, if you want your neck or other parts of the body treated, it may last up to an hour. Home microdermabrasion takes a only few minutes, including the pre-treatment cleansing and micro abrasion applicator maintenance.
What Should I Ask At The First Microdermabrasion Consultation ?
A first microdermabrasion consultation doesn’t take more than a few minutes. Discuss your medical history with the doctor and help him decide whether microdermabrasion is right for you. He will establish your skin type, explain what’s involved and help you set reasonable goals and expectations. Ask about any contraindications and involved risks. Also ask to see other patients’ ‘before and after’ photos and his qualifications to perform microdermabrasion. You should also let him know that you feel strongly about him using sterile equipment. Ask the doctor to tell you any pre-treatment requirements and finally, set the date for the first session.
Is Micro Abrasion Suitable for my skin ?
If the goal is to get rid of superficial acne scars, blotchy skin, large pores, age or sun spots, fine wrinkles or uneven skin tone and texture, you are a perfect candidate for microdermabrasion. All skin types and colors can be treated with microdermabrasion. But before you go ahead, talk to a specialist about your medical history because there are conditions which may make microdermabrasion unsuitable for you.
What Can Microdermabrasion Do For Me ?
Microdermabrasion can reduce fine lines and wrinkles, helps fight acne and remove acne scarring, evens skin tone, eliminates white and black heads, minimizes large pores and revitalizes dull skin. Microdermabrasion helps skin regeneration by increasing its elasticity and collagen production. The skin looks fresh and feels smooth as soon as treatment is over. With micro abrasion, there is no recovery time and no discomfort.
How Much Does Microdermabrasion Cost ?
A microdermabrasion treatment costs, on average, $75 to $200, depending on where it is performed and the area treated. For best results, more than one microderm abrasion session is need. There are also the so-called hidden costs (use special gel and cream that are needed before and after the treatment).
How Many Treatments Are Required ?
Your doctor can give you a rough idea of the number of microdermabrasions need for best results. Major changes are obvious after the fifth session, even though most patients say they observed improvements after the first two. Most doctors suggest 6 to 10 microabrasion treatments, scheduled around two weeks apart, so the skin has time to recover between micro dermabrasion sessions. After the recommended number of sessions, you may have to schedule another abrasion once every two or three months, to maintain the effects.
Does Microdermabrasion Hurt ?
Microdermabrasion treatment is painless. Some patients have reported some itchiness or stinginess when micro crystals came in contact with their skin. You may feel some discomfort around the eyes, but as microdermabrasion treatment continues, your skin gets used to crystal flow. It feels like the mild facial massage from a special wand. Your face may appear a little pinkish in the first 24 hours, but you should not experience any itchiness or pain.
What Should I Expect After Treatment ?
You will receive a sunscreen hydrating moisturizer after microdermabrasion, to avoid sun damage after leaving the doctor’s office. Some redness might occur on treated areas, but they generally disappear after a few hours. During the first 24 hours, your skin may feel dry, similarly to effects of a mild wind or sunburn. Use lots of moisturizer during the first few days. Avoid sun exposure for at least a week after the treatment, don’t use any peeling products for the next 3-4 days and avoid full-face make up (liquid foundation or pressed powder).
How Soon Can I Return To Work ?
You can return to work the minute you leave your doctor’s office. If your skin looks reddish, like after a mild sunburn, you can cover it up with some light make-up.
When Do Microdermabrasion Results Become Visible ?
That depends on your skin and the micro dermabrasion machine used by your doctor. Some patients reported changes after the first treatment. Your skin will look cleaner and healthier after a few microdermabrasions, but major changes (like reduction of wrinkles and scars) become visible after five treatments.
Are There Any Risks Involved with Microdermabrasion ?”
Microdermabrasion is virtually risk-free. It is non-invasive and mild, so you have nothing to worry about. Make sure, however, that the medical staff sterilizes the equipment or changing the disposable pieces before use. That way, the risk of infection is practically zero.
What Can’t MicroDermabrasion Do ?
Microdermabasion can not cure severe scarring or deeply spotted areas on your face and body. Microdermabrasion works well at the very top layer of the skin. It cannot reconstruct the epidermis like laser surgery or dermabrasion treatment can. Don’t expect microdermabrasion to remove tattoos, make darker pigmented areas disappear or treat severe burn scars.
What do chemical peels do ?
Chemical peeling agents resurface the skin by inducing a controlled wound and thus removing superficial layers of the skin. As a result, chemical peels promote the growth of a new healthy top skin layer and improve skin problems like hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven texture and skin impurities.
What should I expect during treatment ?
Procedures may vary dependent on the type of chemical peel chosen. Skin is prepped using a medical degreaser to ensure the treated area is free of any oils left on the skin. The chemical agent is then applied and typically remains on the skin for 3 to 5 minutes. Most patients feel a mild stinging which is temporary and usually subsides after a few minutes. Some peels are designed to self neutralize and may remain on your skin for 2-4 hours.
How long is the recovery after a chemical peel and what type of care is necessary ?
Your recovery times will vary based on the type and strength of the peel. Immediately after the peel, your skin will feel tight and may be red. Any visible peeling will be light and fluffy and easily controlled with moisturizer. Peeling usually lasts 3-5 days, depending on the actual peel treatment. Use of gentle cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen is important, as it will enhance the healing process and results. Normal activity may be resumed after the peel, however strenuous exercise and heavy sweating should be avoided for 2-3 days. Sun exposure should be avoided while skin is peeling; exposure of treated skin to a lot of heat should also be avoided as it may induce swelling, redness and for deeper peels blisters under the skin. Peeling skin should be allowed to slough off naturally; picking or peeling of flaking skin is prohibited, as it may lead to scarring. Use of prescription topicals should be avoided for 3-5 days post peel. Results may vary.
Why did I not have any visible peeling after my peel ?
The success of the peel should not be judged by the amount of peeling, but by the end results that the peel will produce. The amount of peeling may vary depending on individual skin condition at the time of the peel or the depth of the peel. Regardless of the degree of peeling, the skin is still sloughing off at an accelerated rate, resulting in the improvement of skin tone and texture and an improvement of fine lines and uneven pigmentation.
What products or procedures should I avoid before a chemical peel ?”
• One week before the peel avoid waxing, electrolysis, deploritory creams, and laser hair removal.
• Two to three days before the peel discontinue using any prescription topicals such as Retin-A, differin or Tazorac, as well as any products containing retinol, alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA), beta hydroxyl acids (BHA) or benzoyl peroxide.
• Patients who have had any medical cosmetic facial treatments or procedures such as Laser treatments, cosmetic fillers or other surgical procedures should wait until skin sensitivity has completely resolved before receiving a peel.
What are the contraindications to chemical peels ?
Chemical peels should be avoided if any of the following conditions are present:
• Active cold sores, herpes simplex or warts in the area to be treated
• Wounded, sunburned or excessively sensitive skin
• Accutane use within the last year
• History of recent chemotherapy or radiation therapy
• Allergies to aspirin
• Women who are pregnant or actively breastfeeding
• Patients with Vitiligo
• Patients with a history of autoimmune disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, multiple sclerosis etc) or any condition that may weaken their immune system.
What can I expect after the 1st 24 hours after the chemical peel ?
Your skin will feel tighter and be more red then usual. Your skin may feel tacky and have a yellowish orange tinge that subsides in a few hours. This is due to the Retinoic acid applied to the skin. This is a self neutralizing peel and patients should wait at least 4 hours before washing there face that evening.
When will my skin start to peel and for how long ?
Peeling will generally start 48-72 hours after your treatment and can last 2-5 days. It is very important not to pick off peeling skin; peeling is minimal and easily controlled with moisturizer. Premature peeling of the skin will result in dry, cracked, raw skin that may develop into hyperpigmentation.
May I exercise after the chemical peel ?
Exercise that produces a lot of heavy sweating should be avoided the day of the peel. You may resume all regular activities the next day.
How do I care for my skin after the chemical peel ?
Use of a soap free gentle cleanser shall be used to wash your face, scrubs and wash cloths should be avoided while skin is peeling. Application of a hydrating moisturizer twice a day or as often as necessary is recommended to relieve dryness and control peeling. A physical Sunblock must be worn daily. Its best to avoid prolonged sun exposure for 1-week post peel.
How many chemical peels will I need, and how far apart should they be done ?
A single peel will add a healthy glow, improving skin tone, texture and clarity. It reduces or eliminates hyperpigmentation, sunspots and softens fine lines and wrinkles. The number of treatments varies by individual needs and conditions and will be determined by our medical aesthetician. For extremely damaged skin, the peel can be done once a month for quicker results. For most patients 3-5 peels a year is all you need to maintain your results. Maintaining a proper skin care regime between peels will ensure the best duration of your results.
What will I look like right after the chemical peel and how much will I peel ?
Your skin will look slightly tan or bronzed immediately after the peel due to the retinoic acid. This fads within the hour. Over the next few days your skin will feel tighter, any pigmented areas may appear slightly darker at first. Skin peeling usually begins by day 3, it’s a light fluffy peeling and is easily controlled with moisturizer. In some cases the peel is virtually invisible. Patients on Retin-A may experience heavier peeling. By day 6 or 7 you will be done peeling and your skin will look amazing.
Are there any restrictions of activities after the chemical peel ?
We recommend avoiding heavy sweating for the first few days after the peel. Normal activities may be resumed immediately after the peel. Its advisable to keep sun exposure to a minimum when skin is peeling. SPF is a required daily.
